7 Hidden Luxury Areas in the Texas Hill Country

• By Chris Pesek

Luxury in the Texas Hill Country looks different from luxury in Austin. It is less about having the biggest house on the block and more about privacy, acreage, water, views, private access, and creating a property people actually want to visit.

That market is growing. Texas REALTORS reported a record 14,418 sales of $1 million-plus homes from November 2024 through October 2025, up 12 percent from the prior year. Buyers looking beyond Austin have several very different options. Boot Ranch near Fredericksburg offers private-club living and is now in its final development phase with fewer than 100 homesites remaining. Driftwood Golf & Ranch Club combines 800 acres, vineyards, and Tom Fazio golf closer to Austin. Cordillera Ranch near Boerne spans 9,100 acres with five miles of Guadalupe River frontage.

Then there are Horseshoe Bay for lake living, Spanish Oaks and Barton Creek for Austin-adjacent luxury, Wimberley for private retreats, and the Blanco-Johnson City corridor for buyers wanting larger acreage and room to create something completely their own.

The best luxury market is not necessarily the best-known one. It is the one that matches how you actually want to live.
